Annual NAME Conference

Adopt a School in Puerto Rico

NAME has selected ‘Adopt a School in Puerto Rico’ as the recipient of the Silent Auction proceeds at this year’s conference in Baltimore, Maryland.

The project Adopt A School in Puerto Rico began after Hurricane Irma and Maria devastated the island of Puerto Rico in September 2017. It was started to help the students/teachers acquire supplies needed so that they could get back to school and have some sense of normalcy.

As of March 2018, over seventy-two (72) teachers at seventeen (17) different schools, elementary and secondary levels, have received school supplies. Students in regular and special education programs have benefited from the donations, including students in the following special education programs: Deaf and Hard of Hearing, Visually Impaired, Autism, Intellectually Deficient (moderate and severe), Learning Disabilities and Emotional Disorders. In addition, over 150 lbs of books and supplies have been provided for libraries.  For more information -
