Massachusetts: State Plan Amendment Approved for Additional Health-Related Services

As a result of the free-care guidance issued by CMS in 2014, Massachusetts submitted a State Plan Amendment (SPA) opening the door for schools to bill Medicaid health services provided to all their Medicaid-enrolled students, not just those receiving health services as part of their Individualized Education Plan (IEP) or special education plan. The SPA was approved in July 2017 and the state of Massachusetts intends to implement the expansion to the School-Based Medicaid Program effective July 1, 2019. Read more details about the expansion in this May 2018 Bulletin from MassHealth.
